Amloh rice millers flag storage crisis, meet former Punjab minister
They pointed out that no rice rake had been placed at the centre for the past two months, which had led to delays in lifting, further slowing down the milling process
The Rice Millers’ Association, Amloh, on Monday highlighted acute storage constraints and delay in the placement of rice rakes at the local procurement centre, stating that the situation has pushed the milling industry to the brink.
A delegation of the association met former Punjab minister Kaka Randeep Singh and apprised him of the issues being faced by the millers. The representatives said there was no space available for storage of rice at the Amloh centre, resulting in severe operational bottlenecks.
They pointed out that no rice rake had been placed at the centre for the past two months, which had led to delays in lifting, further slowing down the milling process.
They added that due to non-placement of rakes and piling up of stocks, they were suffering losses of nearly Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per day.
Kaka Randeep Singh said he will take up the issues raises by the millers with the Union and state governments.
The millers warned that unless timely corrective measures were taken, the industry, already under financial strain, would continue to incur heavy losses.
