Ropar, January 2

The district administration has decided to enrol differently-abled youth to run Apni Rasoi, a state-government project meant to provide meals to poor at an economical price.

Ropar Deputy Commissioner Gurneet Tej said this step would help in making these children self-dependent. While talking to mediapersons, Tej said about 10 students from a school in the town would be handed over the responsibility of cooking meals in Apni Rasoi and they would be disbursed wages according to government rules.

“These students have already been cooking food for hostel inmates in the school,” she said. Currently, Apni Rasoi is serving about 400 meals every day at Rs 10 per plate to poor.

The Deputy Commissioner said soon, an automatic machine would be installed to prepare chapatis in the kitchen.

She also said the work on the first phase of the theme park being set up in the memory of two elder sahibzadas and 40 other Sikh martyrs at Chamkaur Sahib would be completed by March.
