Ashiana Public, Chandigarh

Social Substance, in collaboration with the Puppet Theatre, organised two stage plays at Ashiana Public School, Sector 46-A, Chandigarh. The play, 'Azaadi Abhi Adhuri Hai', was based on a poem by Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was a thought provoking site for the audience. It revolved around the social evils present in society such as child labour and reflected on human attitude towards them. The audience was completely in awe of the performance. The second play, 'Kahani Abu Ali ka', was based on an Arabian story and brought the house down. The efforts of the entire team were commendable. The show focused on showcasing the efforts made by the underprivileged section of society, especially children. Director Lalita Prakash and Principal Monika Sharma thanked the team.

Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula

To honour and appreciate the achievers, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, observed Medha Manyata Divas, the annual prize distribution ceremony. It was an opportunity to acknowledge the young talents for their achievement in various fields and their contribution to society. More than 250 students were felicitated for their excellence in academics and various fields such as music, dance, art, behaviour and dramatics. The C Subramanium Award on behalf of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai Kendra, was conferred to Adamya Chauhan and Kishnika Dhawan for ‘Excellence in Character’. Prestigious Shri Pranlal Devkaran Nanjee Award was conferred on Hiteshwar Sharma for harmonious behaviour. The school had also organised a panel discussion with the alumni who have proved their mettle. They answered the queries of students and parents. A movie, ‘The Second Best’, was also shown to students. Chairman Kulwant Singh (IAS Retd) applauded the efforts of the students and encouraged them to achieve greater heights. Principal Gulshan Kaur congratulated the achievers and their proud parents.

Shishu Niketan, Panchkula

The first clinic of the district was inaugurated at Shishu Niketan Public School, Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 5, Panchkula, by Anil Malik, state nodal officer, Haryana State Council for Child Welfare (HSCCW). A workshop on the topic, ‘Challenges of adolescence problem solving via psychological counselling’, was also conducted for the students.

Guru Nanak public, Chandigarh

To create awareness on cleanliness and its effects on the environment, the staff and students of Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36-D, participated in the Swachh Bharat Mission. A pledge was taken and poems and songs were presented followed by a cleanliness drive. A best out of waste activity was also organised.

St Xavier’s, Mohali

A financial education workshop was held for teachers and employees of St Xavier’s High School, Mohali. The content, approved by SEBI, aimed to enlighten the staff on the basics of savings and investments.

Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula

A workshop on maths phobia was organised for the students of Classes IX and X at the school. Vikas, a former IITian, motivated the students to eliminate the fear of mathematics. He revealed the secrets for getting rid of the fear for the subject. tns
