At Rs 2.97 lakh, per capita income of city double the national avg

CHANDIGARH: The per capita income of the city at current prices during the financial year 2017-18 has been recorded at Rs 2,97,313, which is more than double the national average of Rs 1,25,397.

The per capita income of the city at current prices during the financial year 2017-18 has been recorded at Rs 2,97,313, which is more than double the national average of Rs 1,25,397.

As per the latest figures issued by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Chandigarh has witnessed an increase of 16.92 per cent in per capita income over the preceding fiscal. The per capita income of the city was Rs 2,54,293 for the year 2016-17, which jumped Rs 43,023 in the year 2017-2018.

Though the city has recorded an increase in its per capita income, it failed to improve its ranking at the national level. The city has retained its fourth rank.

Though the ministry has also released the provisional figures of the per capita income of some states for the year 2018- 19, Chandigarh’s figures are yet to be finalised. As per the provisional figures, the per capita income of Delhi has increased to Rs 3,65,529.

The Chandigarh was placed fourth for the fiscals 2015-16 and 2016-17. The city’s per capita income was the highest in the country between 2006 and 2008. Statistics reveal that the annual average per capita income of people in Chandigarh was Rs 1,59,116 in 2011-12, which rose to Rs 2,97,313 in 2017-18 .
