Auto driver held in Panchkula hit-&-run case

Six days after Lieut Gen Kulwant Singh Mann (retd) died in a hit-and-run accident near Mansa Devi Complex here, the police today arrested an auto driver of Saketri, Om Prakash, a native of Churu, Rajasthan.

The deceased’s wife had lodged a complaint with the Mansa Devi police station on January 10, reporting that her 87-year-old husband, a retired Lieutenant General, was hit by an auto driver while out on a walk near his home in the morning on January 9.

He was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, where he died during treatment. The police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(b) and 106 of the BNS. During the investigation, the police identified the auto driver on January 13 and arrested him next day.

Inspector Munish Kumar, in charge of the Mansa Devi police station, stated that the MDC area was being regularly patrolled. The departments concerned have been contacted for the installation of CCTV cameras at traffic lights and key locations wherever necessary.
