Auto driver’s phone snatched

Chandigarh: An auto driver’s mobile phone was snatched by his passenger at Sector 55 here on August 31. According to the police, Deen Bandhu of Sector 34 stated that an unknown passenger snatched his phone near the Badheri barrier and escaped. A case was registered at the Sector 39 police station. TNS

Rs 50K stolen from church 

Chandigarh: Four unknown persons have been booked for stealing cash from donation boxes at the church in Sector 19 on the intervening night of August 30 and 31. The complainant, Ketus Rayappen, stated that around Rs 50,000 were stolen from five donation boxes, after breaking their locks. The incident was caught on CCTV cameras. Four persons are seen committing the crime, a police source said. TNS

Domestic help booked for theft

Chandigarh: A domestic help allegedly escaped after stealing gold jewellery from a house in Sector 28. The complainant, Inderjit Singh Virdi of Sector 28, stated that the suspect, Vishnu Pariya of Nepal, stole eight gold bangles from his house on August 30. A case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

One arrested with heroin 

Chandigarh: A Bapu Dham Colony resident has been arrested with heroin. The suspect, Amit Kumar of Phase I of the colony, was arrested near his house with 5.65 gm of heroin. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

Head granthi injured in attack

Kharar: Bhai Attar Singh, who serves as “Katha Vachak” at Gurdwara Sahib Jyoti Sarup, Fatehgarh Sahib, was thrashed by around 30-35 people at an event where offensive songs were being played. He was admitted to the Mohali Civil Hospital, Phase 6, in a serious condition. Bhai Attar told the police that he was returning from Mohali and near Jhanjheri village he saw a function was being held at a langar hall just adjoining a village gurdwara. He said indecent songs were being played in the fucntion. He said he started making a video and suddenly people started thrashing him. The police have registered a case under Sections 295, 323, 427, 148 and 149 of the IPC against 30-35 unidentified persons. TNS

3 questioned in cheating case

Zirakpur: The Zirakpur police have questioned three partners of M/s Platnium Smart Buildcon on Sunday on a complaint filed by Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Panchkula. The FIR was registered against the trio in July at Zirakpur police station. The complainant alleged that the trio told him that they were going to launch a project named Silver City in Rajpura and he invested huge amount of money in the firm. Kamaljit alleged that the accused hatched a conspiracy and defrauded him. Zirakpur Station House Officer Gurcharan Singh said they had called the accused at police station for questioning. He said after verifying every allegation levelled by the complainant, further action would be taken against the trio. TNS
