Auto-rickshaw driver stabbed to death in Chandigarh’s Daria

An auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed to death following an altercation at Daria near Industrial Area here in the wee hours of Thursday.

The incident took place at around 1 am near JP Hotel at Daria.

Arun Tiwari, aged around 35, a resident of Dadwa, was reportedly returning home after doing a night shift at the Chandigarh railway station.

According to the police, Tiwari got into an argument with another auto-rickshaw driver from the same locality. What began as a verbal exchange quickly escalated, with the suspect allegedly attacking him with a sharp-edged weapon. He sustained serious injuries and collapsed on the spot. Hearing cries for help, nearby residents rushed to the scene, but the attacker escaped.

The police reached the spot. The injured man was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police are yet to verify whether there were more people involved.

The body was sent for post-mortem. A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused.
