Ayush, Nikhil sprint to gold

CHANDIGARH:Ayush Raikhy of SD Public School, Sector 32, clocked 11.09 to win the boys’ 100m gold on the concluding day of the open athletics meet, organised by the UT Sports Department at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, here, on Thursday.

Ayush Raikhy of SD Public School, Sector 32, clocked 11.09 to win the boys’ 100m gold on the concluding day of the open athletics meet, organised by the UT Sports Department at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, here, on Thursday.

Damanjot Singh (11.15) of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Sector 40, won the silver medal, while Saurva (12.72) of Bal Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, took home the bronze medal.

In the boys’ 1500m final, Nikhil of DAV School, Sector 8, topped the podium with a timing of 4:34.45. He was followed by Akashdeep Singh (4:37.12) of Shishu Niketan Public School, Sector 43, in second place, while Dharminder (4:46.92) of Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 7, claimed the third position.

Chirag Gupta of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Dhanas, won the boys’ high jump gold with a leap of 1.70m.

Amit (1.65m) won the silver, while Harmeet Bhullar (1.55m) of Sector 7 Sports Complex had to be content with the bronze medal.

In the girls’ 100m dash, Simran of GMHS, Sector 46, scampered to gold in 12.47 seconds. She was followed by Komal Preet Kaur (13.19) of Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 30, and Sara Bhattal (13.37) of St Kabir School, Sector 26, in second and third positions, respectively. 

Sonakshi of SD Public School, Sector 32, won the girls’ 1500m final with a timing of 5:10.48 seconds. Aman (5:37.79) of GMSSS, Sector 19, bagged the silver, while Sonu (5:39.67) of Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, claimed the bronze medal. 

Sakshi (1.15m) and Sadhna (1.10), both from GMHS, Maloya, and Kavita (1.08m) of Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, won the top-three positions, respectively, in the girls’ high jump event. 

Damanjot Singh was adjudged the Best Athlete in the boys’ category, while Simran topped the chart in the girls’ category. The duo received Rs 1,500 each.

The winners were given a cash prize of Rs 1,500, while the runner-up got Rs 1,000 each. Those who finished third received Rs 750. 

DAV-15 spikers win

DAV Model School, Sector 15, overcame SGGS Collegiate Public School, Sector 26, in an intense final to win the boys’ title on the concluding day of the inter-school volleyball championship at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, here, on Thursday. DAV School won 22-25 25-23 25-21 25-22. DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, finished third. Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, registered a hard-fought 25-22 25-33 22-25 25-22 win over Government Model High School, Sector 34, in the girls’ final. Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33, claimed the third position.
