Badnore asks residents to chip in for development

The Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, VP singh Badnore, has vowed to make Chandigarh a front runner city on the national map.

The Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, VP singh Badnore, has vowed to make Chandigarh a front runner city on the national map. Badnore urged residents to come forward for the development of the city and to take it to new heights with fervour and energy. While addressing a function held yesterday at the Parade Ground on the occasion of Independence Day, Badnore listed achievements of the city in various fields. 

Badnore unfurled the National Flag on the occasion and also gave awards to those, who performed exceptionally in their respective fields. He said the city had achieved first rank in performance grading index announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. 

In the armed forces and police category the first prize was bagged by the Chandigarh Police IRB (Women) whereas the Punjab Police came second and Chandigarh Police (Men) was placed at the third spot.

In the NCC contingents, Army wing (Boys) bagged the first position, Army wing (Girls) came second and Naval wing third.

‘At Home’ function 

The Punjab Governor and the UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore, was ‘At Home’ with distinguished residents of Punjab and Chandigarh at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Thursday. 

The ‘At Home’ function began as the Punjab Police band played the National Anthem. Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Rana KP Singh, Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh, Kirron Kher, Principal Secretary to Governor JM Balamurugan, the BJP Chandigarh president, Sanjay Tandon, former Mayor Davesh Moudgil, DGP Dinkar Gupta, Adviser to the Administrator Manoj Parida and many senior officials from Punjab and Chandigarh were present during the function. 

Mayor launches WhatsApp number for complaints 

Chandigarh Mayor Rajesh Kumar unfurled the National Flag at the office of the Municipal Corporation (MC), Sector 17, on Independance Day The city Mayor, Rajesh Kumar, also launched WhatsApp No. 7380033322 through which residents of Chandigarh can send their complaints related to the services of Municipal Corporation. 

He said, “Prompt action will be taken against complaints received through the WhatsApp number. Response will be sent to the complainant after resolving the problem.”

The MC also honoured, organisations, schools and hotels for their contribution to society and Swachh Bharat Mission in Chandigarh.

Those awarded on the occasion include Jasjeet Suri (For organising various free workshops/camps), Garima Sharma (Social activities), Kamaljeet Singh (For organising free workshops/camps), Neena Tewari (Social activities), Rajesh Yadav (Holding Guinness World record for highest altitude pop-up restaurant), Rahul Mahajan (Horticulture activities), Kulmeet Sodhi (For organising free workshops/camps), Mandeep Puri (For lying foundation stone of Urban Melange (2013) magazine), Shipra Bhardwaj (Education to slum children and anti-drug addiction), Vikrant (Education to slum children and anti-drug addiction), Paveela Bali (Cleaning projects), hotel Mountview, Sector 10, hotel JW Marriot, Sector 35, hotel Taj, hotel The Lalit, IT Park, Kishangarh, Lemon Tree hotel, Industrial Area, Phase I, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46 and Government Model Middle School, MHC, Mani Majra.
