Badnore inaugurates annual IRIA conference at PGI

CHANDIGARH:Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore, inaugurated the 72nd annual conference of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association (IRIA), organised by the Chandigarh Chapter of the IRIA, in collaboration with the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, PGI, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, January 17

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore, inaugurated the 72nd annual conference of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association (IRIA), organised by the Chandigarh Chapter of the IRIA, in collaboration with the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, PGI, Chandigarh. The conference is being held at the PGI.

According to Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGI, Prof MS Sandhu, “The day’s activities primarily involved the Indian College of Radiology and Imaging (ICRI), which is an academic body of the IRIA.” 

This year, the theme of the first day was on ultrasound. A session was held on the utility of ultrasound in the evaluation of the peripheral nerves and the prostate. Recent advances in fetal ultrasound were highlighted by experts from different parts of the country. The expert faculty discussed the nuances of musculoskeletal ultrasound as well as elaborated the techniques of ultrasound of the joints. 

The famous Dr Suren Kothari Film Reading Session saw participation of expert panelists from across the country. They discussed and presented interesting imaging cases, which was educative for radiologists in-training.

Badnore highlighted the role of radiology in the modern day healthcare. The PGI Director, Prof Jagat Ram, expressed his satisfaction regarding the growth of the Radiology Department at the institute over the years. 

The department has state-of-the art equipment, which can diagnose diseases as well as treat several pathologies by minimally invasive image guided techniques. Some of this equipment like cryoablation and irreversible electroporation are the first to be available at the Radiology Department of the PGI, Chandigarh, in the entire country.
