CHANDIGARH: Olympian Balbir Singh Senior was today discharged from the PGI after 108 days.

Chandigarh, January 18

Olympian Balbir Singh Senior was today discharged from the PGI after 108 days. The Padma Shri awardee has been shifted to his residence in Chandigarh for rest and recovery, which is likely to take four to six months.

Expressing happiness at the recovery of the legend, Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, said, “It is an unparalleled achievement and credit to his grit that he could recover at the age of 95 from bronchial pneumonia and near cardiac failure that he was initially admitted with. We wish him a speedy recovery and good health, and look forward to inviting him as our guest at the PGI in the not-so-distant future.”

Commending the PGI team, Kabir, grandson of Balbir Singh Senior, who was there with his grandfather for all 108 days, said, “We are extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff of the PGI, especially the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit and the medical team of the Pulmonary Dept.”

“Also, we have no words to thank all those who reached out to us, including Capt Amarinder Singh, Punjab CM, and Col Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, with good wishes and prayers for nanaji’s speedy recovery during this trying time,” he said.
