Bhumi stuns Yashika, advances to next round

CHANDIGARH:Bhumi Kakkar improved from one set down to defeat Yashika Sharma in a thrilling encounter of the girls' U-14 category during the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship, at the Chandigarh Club complex, Sector 1, on Monday.

Chandigarh, November 26 

Bhumi Kakkar improved from one set down to defeat Yashika Sharma in a thrilling encounter of the girls' U-14 category during the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship, at the Chandigarh Club complex, Sector 1, on Monday. 

Kakkar lost the first set 0-6, but bounced back strongly to register a 6-4 6-1 win before moving into the second round. 

Bhumika Gupta also registered an easy 6-4 6-3 victory against Avneet Kaur, while Rubani Sidhu overpowered Niharika Moudgil 6-0 6-2 in another easy tie. In the last match of the category, Ananya Dogra blanked Unjila 6-3 6-2. Meanwhile, in the girls' U-16 category, Simran Pritam easily trounced down Bhumika 6-3 6-0.Harnoor also comfortably moved into the second round by defeating Bhumi 6-0 6-1 and Milli Pandit beat Harshita Singla without conceding a single game 6-0 6-0. Catherine Bhangu faced some resistance from Avneet Kaur before winning the match.Bhangu lost the opening set 2-6, but returned 6-2 6-1 to confirm her berth in the next round. Omisha Nischal won a easy tie against Ananya Dogra 6-0 6-2.

Yash faces tough challenge from Vishal 

Yash Aggarwal struggled a bit before defeating Vishal in a three-set finish match of the boys' U-14 category. Aggarwal started with a 6-1 opening set win, but Vishal returned at 3-6 to level the scores in the next set. In the decider, Aggarwal kept his calm to register a 6-2 victory. Arshveer Sharma had an easy day as he defeated Manjootpreet Singh 6-4 6-4, while Shivam Wadhawan also easily overpowered Birkaran Singh 6-1 6-2. Haramrit Singh pulled out a 6-1 6-2 victory against Daksh Marwaha, while Pratham Gopal easily defeated Guransh Singh 6-3 6-1. 

In the last two matches, Aryan Aggarwal defeated Saksham Chawla 6-1 6-0 and Harwin Munjal overpowered Damanpreet Singh 6-1 6-4.

Meanwhile, in the boys' U-16 category, Aryan Aggarwal maintained a good show to overpower the challenge of Pratham Gopal. Aryan lost the first set 3-6, but only to return with a stunning 6-2 7-6 (3) victory to move into the next round. Uday Jyoti also faces some resistance before defeating Divjot Tiwana 7-6 (3) 7-5, while Lakshya Gupta blanked Harsh Arora without conceding a single game 6-0 6-0. Jayesh Mehra was settled to defeat Rattan Kabir 6-1 6-2.—TNS
