Biker held for assaulting traffic cop

CHANDIGARH: A motorcyclist was arrested for assaulting and deterring a traffic cop from performing his duty at the Modella light point in Industrial Area here on Tuesday.

A motorcyclist was arrested for assaulting and deterring a traffic cop from performing his duty at the Modella light point in Industrial Area here on Tuesday.

According to the police, Constable Devinder Kumar, who is posted in the traffic wing of the UT police, alleged that Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Raipur Khurd, deterred him from performing his duty at the Modella light point.

The police said the constable, who was regulating traffic, had asked the biker to stop, however, the suspect entered into an altercation with him. The suspect also used criminal force, following which the traffic cop informed the police.

On Constable Devinder Kumar’s complaint, a case under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Industrial Area police station. The suspect was arrested. The police have begun an investigation into the case.
