Mohali, July 14

Going out for dinner during late hours cost Navnit Kumar, who resides at Somdutt Housing Society on the Kharar-Landran road here, dear as he lost his Verna car to robbers.

Navnit, who belongs to Meerut, along with his brother-in-law Ritu Raj Singh, was searching for a nice eating joint on the Kharar-Banur road on Friday night when they had an encounter with five carjackers, who were chasing them in a white Ritz car.

Narrating the incident, which occurred around 11.30 pm, Navnit said they were going in their Verna car when all of sudden, the miscreants stopped their car in front of ours, thereby blocking our way.

“Two of the miscreants stepped out of their car. As I pulled down the windowpane, they said we had hit their car in its rear. Arguments ensued and we were shocked. We too come out of our car. Suddenly, one of them pulled out a pistol and fired a shot,” said Navnit.

He added that he and his brother-in-law sat down at once and did not resist.

“Meanwhile, two of the miscreants sat in our car and sped away after threatening us,” said Navnit.

The victim informed the police. Ten minutes later, a police team arrived at the spot, he added. — TNS
