Several allegations of illegal levelling of hills and forest land for plotting and farmhouses have surfaced in Mirzapur village of Majri block under the Kharar Assembly constituency.

Senior Punjab BJP leader Vineet Joshi, who visited the site following complaints from villagers, alleged that a land mafia was carving out plots and selling them unlawfully. He was accompanied by Majri Mandal president Mohit Gautam.

Joshi claimed that the land in question is “Mushtarka-Malkan” (joint ownership land), collectively owned by multiple shareholders. He urged the civil administration to take immediate action and arrest those responsible, citing a complaint submitted by villagers on May 20, 2025.

Residents have reportedly lodged complaints with the local SHO, DSP, SSP and other authorities, alleging fraud. However, no action has been taken so far, he claimed.

The senior BJP leader also questioned the inaction of district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, SDM Kharar, Tehsildar Majri and revenue officials concerned.
