Boy sodomised by 3 minors

Chandigarh: An eight-year-old boy was reportedly sodomised by three minor boys at a housing society in Sector 48. Sources said the suspects were aged nine, seven and 12. They allegedly sodomised the victim thrice in a week and threatened him not to reveal the incident to anyone. The victim, however, narrated the incident to his mother, who approached the police. A medical examination of the victim was conducted and a case registered at the Sector 49 police station. TNS

Ladakh students visit university

Chandigarh: Teachers and students from Ladakh, accompanied by Capt MPS Tomar of 22 Medium Regiment, visited Panjab University. The capacity-building tour was for bringing exposure to teachers and students about various educational Institute and heritage sites in India under Sadbhavna. TNS

Talk on water

Chandigarh:  The NSS Unit of GGDSD College, Chandigarh, organised a talk on  rainwater harvesting. Participants were apprised of the importance of  rainwater harvesting and lowering groundwater level across the world. Dr  Jasveen Dua, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany of the college,  explained the students how they could harvest rainwater at their homes.  She  said the Indian Government has been working with enthusiasm on rainwater  harvesting projects. UT Admn relieves SDM (East)

Chandigarh: The UT Administration has relieved SDM (East) Arjun Sharma, who has been transferred to Puducherry. Consequently, the UT Administrator  has distributed  his departments  among other officers. Saurabh Mishra, SDM (South), gets the charge of Director, Information Technology,  Nazuk Kumar, SDM (Central) is also the Land Acquisition Officer,  Jagjit Singh, Controller Printing  and Stationary, has been given the charge of Joint Chief Electoral Officer  and Sudhanshu Gautam, Director Public Relations, will look after the charge of the SDM (East). RWA-46 demands passage to Sec 32

Chandigarh: Chairman of the RWA, Sector 46-A, SP Jand, has written to Mayor Rajesh Kumar Kalia to open a passage on the road separating Sectors 46 and 32 and install traffic lights at the crossing. Jand stated that the issue was pending since 2016. He added that people had to take a long route to commute between the two sectors. He stated that such an intersection existed on the roads separating Sector 45 and 33 and Sector 40 and 37. TNS

Two snatchers held in P’kula

Panchkula: The police here on Thursday claimed to have nabbed two snatchers active in the Kalka area of the district. The suspects have been identified as Jatin Kumar and Shyam Lal, both residents of EWS, Sector 4, Parwanoo, HP. The police said the suspects riding a motorcycle were following a woman on scooty coming from the Railway Colony on Monday. The police said after the woman parked her scooty in the main market in Kalka, the suspects snatched her purse and fled away. A case has been registered against the duo. They were produced before a court, which sent them to one-day police custody. TNS

Three arrested for thefts

Ambala: The police have arrested three persons Rocky, Gaurav, alias Gora, and Goldy of Naraingarh and claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle from them, officials said here on Thursday. According to the police, Karnail Singh of Naraingarh had reported that the suspects had stolen his motorcycle on June 3. The trio were produced before a court, which sent them to 14-day judicial custody, the officials said. TNS

Costly injection rendered useless

Chandigarh: Due to the negligence of a nurse at the PGI, a costly injection worth Rs 2.25 lakh to be used by a cancer patient was rendered useless. Nitin, a local resident, said he had come to the PGI with his mother Rajni Kaushal, who is suffering from stomach cancer, for administering the injection. The patient was scheduled to undergo chemotherapy on Thursday evening, but by mistake the nurse prepared a wrong solution of the injection, which rendered it useless. Officials said the nurse felt uneasiness after which she was admitted to the hospital. Nitin said they do not want any action against the nurse but want the administration to provide them with the costly injection. TNS

Athletics meet from August 3

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Athletics Association will organise the Chandigarh Senior State Athletic Meet 2019-20 at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here from August 3. Athletes residing, studying or working in Chandigarh will be eligible to participate in the two-day championship, the sports body said here on Thursday. During the competition the association will also select the athletes for the 59th National Senior Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in Lucknow from August 27-30. The interested athletes need to register for the event before 5 pm on July 30. TNS

Hockey c’ship from tomorrow

Chandigarh: Hockey Chandigarh will organise the Chandigarh State Sub Junior Men Hockey Championship at the Sector 42 stadium here from July 27-31. A total of eight teams will participate in the five-day tournament, the sports body said here on Thursday. The championship will be played on knockout-cum-league basis. The teams will be divided into two pools and the top-two teams from each pool will advance to the semis. TNS

Tennis meet from tomorrow

Mohali: Roots Tennis Academy here will host the AITA Talent Series (TS7) Tennis Tournament from July 27. The championship will be held in U-14 and U-16 age-groups in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Interested players need to submit their entries on July 26 between 12 pm to 2 pm. TNS
