Patiala, August 1

Despite recent incidents highlighting negligence on part of the Government Rajindra Hospital authorities, the state Health Department is no mood to accept the resignation tendered by the medical superintendent (MS).

Two days after the resignation of BS Brar from the post of MS of the Government Rajindra Hospital, the Health Department has decided to continue with Brar.

While talking to The Tribune, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Satish Chandra, said, “Till now, we have not decided anyone for the post of the medical superintendent. Therefore, He (BS Brar) will continue as MS as of now.”

Brar had resigned on late Monday evening after the Health Department had asked him to do so. On Tuesday, Brar said that he was being targeted and stories were being planted against him.

As per sources, Brar was facing a lot of flak from various quarters due to the recent controversies.

Two incidents of utter negligence wherein two mothers delivered their babies under inhuman conditions were reported over the last one week. In one of the incident’s a lady was asked to get out of the labour room just after two hours of the delivery in the Gynaecological Department.

In fact, taking a suo moto notice of this case, the State Women Commission had summoned the MS and others in the case of complete negligence on July 27.

Brar said the woman had given in writing that she herself moved out of the delivery ward as she was feeling suffocated inside. His office had submitted documents related to the matter to the Health Department, he added.

In another shocking incident on Sunday, a lady delivered a baby in the open due to the lackadaisical attitude of the hospital authorities.

No other official from the Government Rajindra Hospital was coming forward to take the charge of the medical superintendent, said the sources in the Health Department.

Meanwhile, BS Brar could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
