Camp for specially abled hockey players begins in Patiala

PATIALA: Over 200 special athletes and 40 coaches from across the country are participating in a national floor hockey coaching camp, which began here on Monday.

Over 200 special athletes and 40 coaches from across the country are participating in a national floor hockey coaching camp, which began here on Monday. 

The six-day camp is being organised by the Special Olympics Bharat at Amar Ashram here. 

The organisers said: “220 special athletes and 40 coaches from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan , Gujarat , Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, and Odisha are participating in the camp.” 

Floor hockey is a shorter and faster version of hockey played on a concrete floor of the size of a basketball court. 

Each team consists of six players and a match is played in three slots of nine minutes each. 

The camp is being organised for selecting the national team for the upcoming Special Olympics World Winter Games 2021.
