Kharar: A resident of LIC Colony here died when his scooter was knocked down by a car (HR-05V-7262) near Mundi Kharar on the Mohali road on Friday. The police said the victim, identified as Amarjeet Singh, sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead. A case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the car driver, who managed to escape from the spot. OC

7-month-old girl electrocuted

Dera Bassi: In a freak mishap, a seven-month-old girl died after suffering an electric shock here on Saturday morning. The victim has been identified as Kanishka, a resident of Dera Bassi. As per the information available, the incident happened when the girl was playing on the floor and came into contact with a cooler stand. Kaniskha was taken to the Civil Hospital, where she was declared dead. The family refused to lodge a complaint with the police. OC

Free eye camp at Ram Darbar

Chandigarh: On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, the BJP Chandigarh organised a ‘Sewa Shapath’ programme. Under the programme, a free eye check-up camp was organised in Ram Darbar. The camp was inaugurated by city BJP president Sanjay Tandon. Addressing the people at the camp, Tandon said: “It is our good fortune that we will celebrate the birthday of our beloved leader by organising events for social welfare like free eye check-up camps and tree plantation campaign. These programmes will continue across the country for the next one week”. He also thanked the workers who were instrumental in organising the camp. TNS

Man held with 2 stolen bikes

Ambala: The police have arrested Raju of Ambala City and claimed to have recovered two stolen motorcycles from him. According to the police, the suspect had stolen motorcycles of Kuldeep of Ambala City from the Court Chowk here and Dharmender Singh of Balana village near here from near the Courts Complex in Ambala City on September 11. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to one-day police custody, officials said. TNS

Delhi native held for job fraud

Ambala: The police have arrested Deepak of Delhi for duping a local resident on the false promise of providing him job in the Haryana Roadways. According to the police, Avtar Singh of Sota village in Naggal had reported to the police that on January 5 the suspect had taken a huge sum of money from him through a clerk in the Haryana Roadways posted in Panchkula on the pretext of providing him the job of a conductor in the Roadways. However, neither he provided him job nor returned the money. The suspect was remanded to three-day police custody. TNS

Mullana man held with ganja

Ambala: The police have arrested Kukku of Mullana and claimed to have recovered 1-kg ganja from him. According to the police, the suspect was arrested on a tip-off from Mullana. During his search, the police recovered the contraband. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to one-day police custody. TNS

Two persons go missing

Ambala: Two persons had reportedly gone missing from their respective homes in separate incidents, the police said here on Saturday. According to information, Satbir Singh (38) of Naggal and Gurdeep (19) of Ambala City had been missing from their respective places since September 6 and 11, respectively. The police have lodged missing reports.  TNS

One arrested on assault charge

Ambala: The police have arrested Nishan Singh of Mahesh Nagar here for assaulting a local resident. According to the police, Surinder of Mahesh Nagar reported to the police on August 20 that the suspect, along with four others, had assaulted him, leading to injuries, and threatened him with dire consequences on August 19. The suspect was remanded to 14-day judicial custody.  TNS
