Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched Rs 1,000 and a mobile phone from a Burail resident on the road separating Sector 42 and 43 on Saturday night.



Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched Rs 1,000 and a mobile phone from a Burail resident on the road separating Sector 42 and 43 on Saturday night. According to the police, the victim, identified as Sonu, reported that two motorcycle-borne miscreants stopped him while he was going for some work. The duo threatened the victim and snatched the cash and mobile phone. The accused fled from the spot. The police were informed about the incident. TNS

MC to auction 20 SCF sites

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation is planning to auction around 20 sites for SCFs in the Motor Market, Mani Majra. The cash-starved civic body is expecting to receive around Rs 30 crore from the sale of the sites from an open auction. The MC has also proposed to allot booths at the new bridge market on a rental basis. A proposal in this regard will be placed before the MC General House meeting on December 19. TNS

Drug peddler arrested

Mohali: Sleuths of the Special Task Force, Mohali, arrested a drug peddler with 30 grams of heroin at a naka at Madanpura chowk here. The suspect has been identified as Yugam Bhati, alias Sunny Bhati, a resident of Faridabad, Haryana. Giving information, Superintendent of Police (STF) Rajinder Singh Sohal said the suspect used to procure heroin at Rs 700 per gram from Delhi and sell it in Chandigarh, Mohali and Kharar areas at Rs 3,000. “The suspect was nabbed when he was coming to supply drug to his customers,” said SP Sohal. A case under Sections 21-61-85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the STF police station here. TNS

Mayor lays foundation stone

Chandigarh: Mayor Davesh Moudgil laid the foundation stone of augmentation of water supply network at Mauli Complex here on Sunday. The Mayor said there are 3,000 EWS houses at Mauli Complex and the water supply network had been provided on the rear side of these houses, which was a source of contamination. To avoid the same, it has been proposed to shift water supply pipelines in front of these houses. These pipelines will be replaced with DI pipelines to avoid contamination. He said about 7.6-km of DI pipelines to supply water to 9,000 households will be provided at an estimated cost of Rs 3.25 crore. The work will be completed within six months. TNS

Three hurt in road mishap

Kharar: Three persons were injured in a road accident near Jhanjeri village on the Landran-Chunni road on Saturday. Parnan, a student of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, told the police that he, along with  his friend Rahul Sharma, was on the way to Landran on a bike. Their motorcycle was hit by a truck coming from the Landran side. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Mohali. He told the police that after hitting them, the truck knocked down an Activa scooter, injuring its driver. The Kharar Sadar police have registered a case under Sections 279, 338 and 427 of the IPC against Jagdish Bhardwarj, driver of the truck. OC   

Free eye camp

Patiala: On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Dr Sukhdip S Boparai organised a free eye camp at Patiala Eye Hospital and Lasik Laser Centre at Leela Bhawan here.  Dr Sukhdip highlighted the importance of regular eye check-up. He said diabetes, if not controlled, could make blood vessels weak. Fundus (retina) was the only area in the body where doctors could see blood vessels without cutting it open, he added. TNS

240 bottles of liquor seized 

The police seized 240 bottles of country-made liquor from a car on Saturday. The police have registered a case against the owner of the car under the Punjab Excise Act.  According to the FIR, on suspicion, Baljeet Singh, along with other police officials, asked the suspect to stop the car at a check-post near Khatriwala village in Samana. The police said he did not stop the car and drove away. However, he lost control and the car got stuck in fields –  few metres away from the spot. The police said the suspect fled the spot. On a search of the car, the police seized 240 bottles of country-made liquor with a stamp of Haryana. TNS
