A two-member Central team today visited several mandis in Mohali district to assess the damage to wheat grains due to rain and strong winds in March and April.
A two-member team of officials from the Central Consumer Affairs and Food Department reached Banur mandi in the afternoon. Along with them, District Food Supply Controller Varinder Kumar, Pungrain inspector Deepak Sinha, Markfed inspector Naresh Jindal, FCI inspector, market committee superintendent Gurmeet Singh were present.
The team obtained the necessary information and collected four samples of wheat from the heaps at various traders’ shops in the market. After this, the team left for the inspection of Dera Bassi and Lalru markets.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had demanded compensation from the Centre for the reduced yield in Punjab due to rain, hail and storm.
