The Chandigarh MC is leaving no stone unturned to find out ways to levy taxes on the residents just for its own survival. The interesting thing is, these taxes are being adopted on the pattern of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana where there are assemblies to approve such taxes, whereas at present, Chandigarh is being directly administrated by the Centre, which should realise and meet the demand of funds of the Chandigarh.MCC. Since cow is considered to be the holy animal of the country, the Centre/states should provide separate funds for their protection and do not burden the residents. If the Centre cannot provide financial support to the UT administration and the MCC, it would be better to hand over/transfer Chandigarh to Punjab.

Ill-prepared for monsoon
With the monsoon expected to arrive in the first week of July, we found out how prepared is the city to prevent roads turning into streams. Around 50 per cent of the stormwater drains and roads gullies are still blocked. Drains need to be cleaned with machines so that waterlogging can be avoided. The major cause of flooding in various parts of the city is poor draining system, which was designed four decades ago. Some road gullies are chocked with wild growth, plastic and garbage. installed at major areas.

Drinking water wastage
A hand pump in a Sector 9 park, Panchkula, has been leaking for the past three months. The wastewater flows into uncovered valve chambers and the stagnant water is becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The civic body should look into the matter at the earliest.

Have your say
Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?
