Challenge car rally puts visually impaired navigators in charge
All three top-winning navigators were girls, with Kripa Sharma, an aspiring IAS officer, securing the first prize
The city witnessed a unique display of synergy and skill on Sunday as the 23rd Blind Challenge Car Rally took off from Leisure Valley, Sector 10.
Organised by Arushi in collaboration with Caryakshetra, the event saw visually impaired navigators guiding sighted drivers through a complex route using Braille-coded instructions. The challenge wasn’t just about speed, but precision as 18 teams were judged on their ability to cross specific checkposts with minimal penalties.
All three top-winning navigators were girls, with Kripa Sharma, an aspiring IAS officer, securing the first prize. “I never thought I’d win on my first attempt,” she said.
‘The Big Band’, a group of visually impaired students from Panjab University, enthralled the audience with songs they practice at the varsity’s Rose Garden. A stall featured hand-painted pots and plates created by the special children, with money going directly to the young artists.
Ankita, an SBI employee from Maharashtra, described her experience of navigating despite a last-minute driver change, while Naresh, a history student from PU, marked his fourth participation.
