Chandigarh, July 20

Chandigarh were bundled out on 145 runs in reply to Karnal’s first innings total of 193/9 on the second and final day of their Pataudi Trophy match at the JR Institue of Cricket Technology in Barwala on Friday.

Following their first innings lead of 48 runs, Karnal were awarded three points, while the visitors got one point from the match.

Put in to bat after the match was reduced to 35 overs per innings due to rain, Karnal were off to a flying start as openers Vedant Bhardwaj and Mohit Kalyan added 81 runs in 13 overs.

The duo was separated when Kalyan was consumed by Treyaksh Bali on 35.

Two runs later, Bali accounted for Vedant (41) to bring Chandigarh back into the match. But some useful contributions from Rahul Chopra (20), wicketkeeper-batsman Sagar Kalyan (36) and Anshul Kamboj ensured that Karnal posted a competitive total on board.

Shasya Jamwal, Treyaksh Bali and Davinder Judge claimed two wickets each for the visitors.

In reply, Chandigarh lost opener Ankit Chaudhary and Manul early. Bali and Ankit Kumar added 34 runs for the third wicket before Harshit Saini struk for Karnal.

Bali was caught by Shubhan Sharma off Saini after cracking a 36-ball 42.

Ankit Kumar fell a few runs later as Chandigarh slumped to 64/4 in 12.1 overs.

Skipper Guntash Veer and Shasya Jamwal kept the side in the hunt with a 62-run partnership for the sixth wicket. But once Guntash was out, Chandigarh lost their remaining four wickets for just 14 runs to fold up on 145 runs.

Jamwal remained unbeaten on 39.

Puneet Lather was the most impressive bowler for Karana, claiming 3/22. Harshit Saini (2/24) and Shubhan Sharma (2/37) took two wickets each. — TNS
