Students at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, protested against the lackadaisical approach of college authorities to provide its students with a hostel. They alleged that PG house-owners have asked their guests to vacate the premises, fearing a raid by the city administration.

Alkesh, general secretary, student council, PGGC, Sector 46, “Students in the college require hostel facility. It’s been 38 years and there’s no hostel here. The college authorities have arranged for some students to stay in the hostels of some other colleges.”

A quick lowdown on colleges and their hostel facilities, The Tribune correspondent found several colleges with no hostel facilities; Government College for Arts, Sector 10, for instance. A source said, “The boys are made to stay in International Boys Hostel, Sector 15, while the girl students stay at Chandigarh College of Architecture, Sector 12. Juniors, those in first year, are made to stay in Government Polytechnic for Women, Sector 10.”

Government College of Commerce and Business Administration too doesn’t have its own hostel accommodation. A source from the college said, “We are about an 800-student strong college. We don’t have a hostel yet. The boys are given rooms in the Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, while the girls stay in Sector 25’s Working Women Hostel.”
