Chandigarh court accepts cancellation report in rape case against ex-JJP leader Ramesh Godara
Court notes allegations uncorroborated by evidence; FIR had been registered in 2021 on complaint by a Haryana woman
A local court on Wednesday accepted the cancellation report filed by Chandigarh Police in a 2021 rape case against Ramesh Godara, former Hisar district president of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP).
The court observed that the allegations against Godara were not substantiated on record. The FIR had been registered at Sector 3 Police Station in Chandigarh based on a complaint by a 33-year-old woman from a village near Hisar.
She had alleged that Godara, a relative, took her to Chandigarh under the pretext of medical treatment and raped her at the MLA hostel in Sector 3, while also making objectionable photos and videos, and also took her to two other persons’ houses in the city.
Police had filed the FIR under Sections 376(2)(n), 376(2)(f), and 506 (intimidation), following a zero FIR earlier lodged in Hisar.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Chandigarh noted that the complainant’s allegations were not corroborated by any evidence, including reports from MLA hostel officials and statements from doctors in Kalka and Hisar.
Alleged chats between the complainant and Godara also did not support the charges. The court added that no prima facie case could be established on record.
Ramesh Godara had also contested the Assembly elections in 2019.
