Chandigarh: GMCH-32 gets second woman Director-Principal
A transfusion medicine specialist with 25 years at the institution, Dr Ravneet Kaur is among its most decorated faculty
The UT Administration on Saturday appointed Dr Ravneet Kaur as Director-Principal of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, replacing Gurvinder Pal Thami, who was relieved of charge with immediate effect.
A transfusion medicine specialist with 25 years at the institution, Dr Kaur is among its most decorated faculty. In 2022, the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology honoured her with its Lifetime Achievement Award. She has also played a key role in building India’s National Haemovigilance Programme and serves on the Technical Resource Group on Blood Transfusion Services under the National Blood Transfusion Council.
Most recently, she served as Professor In-Charge (Academics) — a role in which she worked to tighten academic processes and raise institutional standards.
Confirming the appointment, Dr. Kaur said she was “deeply grateful” to the UT Administration for its trust. “I accept this responsibility with humility and a strong sense of commitment,” she said, pledging to strengthen patient care, improve the patient experience, and raise the quality of medical teaching and training.
“Together, building upon the rich legacy of this renowned institution, we will work towards taking it to even greater heights of excellence in healthcare, education, and service,” she added.
