Chandigarh Golf League to tee off tomorrow
The Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) is all set to host the third Chandigarh Golf League from September 12. The four-week event will see as many as 21 teams and 378 players compete in a league-cum-knockout format with 18 players representing each side.
Each team was given 10 owner’s picks with the balance picked from the player pool during the auction held on August 9.
The league, now in its third year, continues to grow in stature, popularity and quality of play with the best golfing talent of the region, said Dr Agnish Rajesh, Chairman, Chandigarh Golf League.
The Chandigarh Golf Club’s premier members’ event will see the teams split in three groups in the round-robin stage with each team playing all others in their group. The top 12 teams will qualify for the Super-12 knockout stage, which will be played in the second week of October. The top four teams will get a bye into the quarterfinal with the balance four joining them through a knockout Super 12 pre-quarterfinal. The total prize money is Rs 34 lakh.
Brandon de Souza, Tournament Director, added that, “Franchise golf has taken off across the country in a huge way and it is here to stay. We have seen successful editions conducted across the country, starting with Kolkata, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Mumbai and even tier-two cities like Lucknow and Jamshedpur.”
