The UT Administration has registered a growth of just 4% in the gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in July.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the collection stood at Rs 176 crore, 4% higher than Rs 169 crore collected during the same month last year.

However in June, the UT had registered a 41% increase in collection. It stood at Rs 170 crore, which was Rs 50 crore more than the revenue of Rs 120 crore generated during the same month in 2021. An official of the Excise and Taxation Department said it was the highest-ever percentage jump in revenue collection after the spread of the Covid pandemic since March 2020.

The Finance Ministry did not release the state-wise data for January this year and May and June 2021.

In May, the UT had registered an increase of 29% in collection. It stood at Rs 167 crore, which was Rs 37 crore more than the revenue of Rs 130 crore generated during the same month in 2021.

In April, the city saw a 22% jump, as the collection stood at Rs 249 crore, Rs 46 crore higher than Rs 203 crore mopped up during the same month last year.

Similarly, in March it stood at Rs 184 crore, 11% more than Rs 165 crore received during the corresponding period in 2021.

A growth of 20% was seen in February, with collections of Rs 178 crore, Rs 29 crore more than Rs 149 crore collected during the same month in 2021.

In December last year, the collection stood at Rs 164 crore, 4% higher than Rs 158 crore received during the same month in 2020.

Similarly, in November last year, the collection swelled to Rs 180 crore, 27% more than Rs 141 crore collected during the same month in 2020.

In October last year, the figure stood at Rs 158 crore, also 4% higher than the tax of Rs 152 crore generated in October 2020.

In September 2021, Rs 152 crore was collected, which was 8% higher than the GST of Rs 141 crore generated during the same month in 2020.

In August last year, the collection stood at Rs 144 crore, up 4% against Rs 139 crore received during the corresponding period in 2020.

With a gross GST collection of Rs 169 crore, the administration had registered a growth of 23% in July last year, against the revenue of Rs 137 crore generated in July 2020.

  • The UT saw 41% increase in collection in June. At Rs 170 crore, it was Rs 50 crore more than the 2021 revenue for the month
  • It was highest-ever percentage jump in revenue collection after the spread of the Covid pandemic since March 2020
