Chandigarh lose to Hyderabad in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Face fifth defeat in the tournament

Chandigarh batters bundled out at 150, before losing to Hyderabad by 136 runs during the Vijay Hazare Trophy today. Punjab posted a stunning 10-wicket win over Sikkim. Playing in Rajkot, city lads failed to achieve 268 to face their fifth defeat in the tournament.

Chandigarh skipper Manan Vohra won the toss and opted to field. Hyderabad lost both the openers, Aman Rao (13) and Tanmay Agarwal (16), at 39 runs. However, Tilak Varma (109 off 118 balls, with six boundaries and three sixes) and Abhirath Reddy (71 off 64 balls, studded with five boundaries and two sixes) raised a 114-run partnership for the third wicket to stable the innings. Reddy was caught by Harjit Singh off Vishu. Mohammed Siraj came next and posted 16, while Varun and K Nitesh Reddy contributed 13 runs each. Jagjit Singh Sandhu remained the pick of the bowlers by claiming 3/43, while Rohit Dhanda, Hartejassvi and Vishu accounted two each.

In reply, Chandigarh batters also recorded a fumbled start with the top order — Arslan Khan (1), Tushar Joshi (7) and Taranpreet Singh (7) — collapsing at the total of 26. Skipper Vohra made 24 and Harjit Singh 18, before Mohammed Siraj accounted the latter and Anikeetreddy claiming Vohra’s wicket. Later, Sanyam Saini (46 off 32 balls, with five boundaries and a six) and Vishu (27 off 34 balls, two boundaries and two sixes) tried their best, but failed to avert the defeat. CTL Rakshann (3/34), K Nitesh Reddy (2/27), CV Milind (2/20) and Siraj (1/19) shared wickets as their winded-up Chandigarh innings in 38 overs.

Arshdeep’s fifer helps Punjab defeat Sikkim by 10 wickets

Indian pacer, Arshdeep Singh claimed a fifer to help Punjab log an easy 10-wicket win over Sikkim, in Jaipur. Punjab bowlers restricted Sikkim at 75, as Arshdeep claimed 5/34. He was supported by Sukhdeep Bajwa (2/24), Mayank Markande (2/2) and Gurnoor Brar (1/13). Palzor scored 13, while Gurinder Singh and MD Saptula scored 10 runs each for Sikkim.

In reply, Punjab skipper Prabhsimran Singh posted an unbeaten 53 off 26 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes, while Harnoor Singh scored 22 off 13 balls, with four boundaries as Punjab sealed the win in the 7th over.
