Highlighting the need for economic empowerment alongside political representation, Mayor Joshi emphasised that women are the backbone of society and must be financially secure. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has made significant strides in enhancing dignity and opportunities for women, and that Chandigarh now has the opportunity to emerge as a model Union Territory in women-led development.

Drawing parallels with successful women-centric initiatives in other states, the Mayor stressed that Chandigarh should adopt progressive governance practices to ensure inclusive growth. He further recommended simplified and priority enrolment for widows, unmarried women, Divyangjan women, and eligible female heads of households to maximise the scheme’s reach and impact.

Mayor Joshi said the proposed scheme would not only strengthen household finances but also enhance dignity, independence and confidence among women, thereby contributing to a more equitable and compassionate society.
