In first comments on the Chandigarh mayoral election issue the BJP on Wednesday said the issue was a closed chapter.

“The Chandigarh episode happened and we respect the order of the Supreme Court. That’s a closed chapter. But we want to ask the leaders of INDIA alliance. All of them made comments at on the Chandigarh matter. But Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi , Mamata Banerjee, Leftists and Arvind Kejriwal are silent on the Sandeshkhali horror. Why?” asked BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Prasad said this showed the sheer hypocrisy and utter double standard of Opposition parties.

“They have not even shown the courage to say that they consider what happened in Sandeshkhali unfortunate.

“We ask the disintegrating INDI  bloc why are they silent. They can go to any extent for votes. All of them had together opposed the criminalisation of triple talaq also,” said Prasad, adding that the goings on in Bengal’s Sandeshkhali were “abominable.”

Several women in Sandeshkhali have accused TMC leader Shahjahan Khan’s aides of perpetrating sexual assault on local women.

Khan has been absconding for 47 days.

The Supreme Court yesterday overturned the Chandigarh mayor election results deprecating the conduct of polling officer Anil Masih who aided the BJP to undermine the mandate by destroying the votes of Congress leaders in the mayoral election.

Supreme Court declared original winner Kuldeep Kumar of AAP the winner of the poll.
