Chandigarh MC floats tender for structural design of Rs 18-crore dog pound in Sector 25
Plans to hold nearly 2,000 community dogs
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued a tender for Rs 4 lakh for the preparation of structural drawings for the construction of a dog pound in Sector 25 (West).
The proposed dog pound, estimated to cost Rs 18.42 crore, is scheduled for completion by September 30.
The project is being undertaken in compliance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court in a suo motu writ petition order dated November 7, 2025, aimed at preventing bite incidents.
The MC has earmarked two acres for it.
The shelter will include sterilisation facilities and Anti-Rabies Vaccination inoculation. The detailed project plan has already been submitted to the Animal Welfare Board.
According to the tender conditions, the selected firm will be required to prepare comprehensive structural drawings detailing dimensions, design specification, and materials to be used in construction. The firm must also provide a detailed structural analysis to ensure stability, strength and durability.
The structural drawings, along with soft copies and detailed calculations, must be submitted within 30 days from the issuance of the allotment letter by the MC. The selected agency will also have to get the drawings vetted by a reputed institution such as Punjab Engineering College, NITTR, or IIT Ropar.
The proposed shelter is designed to accommodate approximately 1,980 dogs and will include boundary walls, administrative blocks, internal circulation roads, pavements, water supply and drainage system, effluent treatment plant, and landscaping.
