Chandigarh MC signs MoU with waste collectors for commercial areas

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with door-to-door waste collectors for commercial areas of Chandigarh here today.
The programme was attended by Saurabh Joshi, Mayor, as the chief guest, in the presence of Amit Kumar, Commissioner, Himanshu Gupta, Joint Commissioner, and senior officers of the corporation.
The initiative formalises their engagement and strengthens the waste management system under the Swachh Bharat Mission by clearly defining responsibilities related to scientific waste collection, mandatory segregation at source and adherence to hygiene standards.
A focussed awareness session was conducted, highlighting the importance of segregating waste into wet, dry and domestic hazardous categories, safe handling of municipal solid waste and maintaining sanitation protocols.
Besides, swachhata kits comprising masks, gloves and essential cleaning tools were distributed to ensure the safety and welfare of sanitation workers of the civic body.
Addressing the gathering, the Mayor further emphasized that segregation at source was essential for effective waste processing and appealed to commercial establishments and citizens to strictly comply with the prescribed norms.
