Chandigarh, December 7

The 39-year-old returnee from South Africa has not been detected for Omicron variant of Covid-19, the results of which came on Tuesday evening.

The Sector 36 resident had returned from South Africa on November 21 and was quarantined at home on his arrival at Chandigarh. He was RT-PCR negative on arrival. However, he was again tested for Covid as per the protocol and turned positive.

His positive sample was sent to NCDC, New Delhi for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS). The variant of concern detected is Delta (B.1.617.2) in the recent sample sent to the NCDC.

Meanwhile, his wife and son had also tested for Covid-19 and currently under isolation at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. As per the authorities, the family will be sent back home tomorrow after again being tested for covid. The condition of all three members is stable.
