Chandigarh Sector 22 girls defeat Dhanas team to qualify for Subroto Cup
Mansi netted a brace as the girls’ U-17 football team of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, qualified for representing Chandigarh in the upcoming Subroto Cup International Football Tournament.
In the region’s final, while playing at their home ground, the Sector 22 government school girls posted a 3-0 win over Government Model Senior Secondary School RC(1), Dhanas.
The side got an early lead, as Mansi drew the first blood in the 2nd minute of the match. While the Dhanas team was still figuring to revert against the early goal, Mansi netted the second in the 13th minute to pushed back the rivals. In the 19th minute, Ishita made it 3-0 to help the Sector 22 team record their fifth consecutive qualification for the international cup.
The 65th edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held from August 18 to September 25. From Chandigarh, the Sector 22 girls have qualified, while the boys’ U-15 team of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, represented by the Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA) won their Chandigarh league. In the boys’ U-17 age-group, the team of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 27, marched into the final phase.
The event, which began in 1960, is held annually in New Delhi and named after the first Indian Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee.
