Chandigarh, July 2

The Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) will host the Chandigarh Golf League in the month of September.

The shorter format of the sport will be organised on a similar format of the IPL. However, unlike cricket, as many as 20 teams of 16 golfers each (all members of the club) will be seen in action competing for the title and top purse of Rs 8 lakh. The runners-up team will bag Rs 4 lakh and the team finishing in third place will get Rs 2 lakh.

Biru Sibia, captain, CGC, said apart from the serious professional events, the club will also be promoting a six-week golf carnival for all to enjoy.

“On all match days, five best ball teams will play along with two singles matches. As many as four players will be rested for every match day,” said Sibia. Every player in a team has to compulsorily play two matches.

The event will be managed by former India international golfer Brandon de Souza and his team, who have conducted similar series in many other cities, said Dr GS Kochhar, vice-president, CGC, and chairman, media and publicity.
