A massive traffic jam was witnessed on Friday morning at the Patiala Chowk here and near the under-construction vehicular underpass.
Residents complained that heavy vehicles blocked the road, resulting in slow traffic movement.
“Traffic police is needed to regulate the flow of traffic during rush hours,” they rued.
The under-construction vehicular underpass and over bridges near Singhpura Chowk have worsened the situation.
Commuters said the service lanes at the construction site haven’t been properly made, adding that waterlogged drains alongside roads lead to frequent accidents. They said the drains are hard to spot at night and the drivers often damage their vehicles by steering into pits.
“The National Highways Authority of India, the Punjab PWD and the municipal corporation need to improve the condition of roads. Even otherwise, the condition of roads is worse in town,” said Prabhsimran Kaur, a VIP Road resident.
