The police have filed a supplementary chargesheet against Naveen Phogat, former additional SHO of Sector 39 police station, in an alleged Rs 1 crore extortion case.

They had already filed a chargesheet against two police constables Varinder, Shiv Kumar and private person Varinder Singh Gill in the case. Phogat had surrendered before a court on November 24. Other three accused in the case are yet to be arrested.

Police registered a case on a complaint of Sanjay Goyal, a businessman of Bathinda in Punjab, against Phogat and others. Goyal alleged that Phogat and others forcefully took Rs 1 crore from him from Sector 40 market on August 4.

He said he along with his driver came to Mohali with Rs 1 crore in 500 denomination to exchange them with 2,000 denomination bank notes. When he reached at Sector 40, three men, including one in police uniform, arrived there and took both to the police beat box.

They took the entire amount and threatened him to implicate him in a false case. When he resisted their action, they allegedly threatened to kill him.

Goyal said next day, he arrived at Sector 39 police station for lodging a complaint where he identified SI Phogat, who took him to his room and returned Rs 75 lakh.

Meanwhile, the court has dismissed an application filed by Phogat’s counsel for issuing directions to Nodal Officer of a telecom company to preserve and produce tower location, call detail record and cell ID location of investigating officer and DSP from November 24 to November 27.
