Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member Dr Pratibha Singh and District Child Welfare Committee chairperson Vandana Sharma today met HIV positive minor boy, who is admitted to the TB hospital, and inquired about his health.

The boy has been diagnosed with TB and he will undergo treatment for the next 2-3 months. However, he is likely to be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Tribune, Dr Pratibha Singh said: “We met the boy today and he is fine. We spoke to the doctor as well and we have been informed that he has been diagnosed with TB and his treatment has been started. He will be reunited with his sister soon and they will be sent to Nari Niketan in Panchkula for the time being. After the treatment of TB, HIV treatment will be started. Meanwhile, the Panchkula CWC will be asked to start the HIV treatment of the girl at the PGI, Chandigarh.”

“The commission will take regular updates regarding the children and surprise visits will also be conducted. Directions will be issued to the authorities in Panchkula to ensure that the children get a good atmosphere there and an attendant is deputed to ensure that they get their medicines on time,” she said.

On being asked about the lack of support to the CWC in the district, she said: “The matter will be raised with the departments concerned, letters will be issued to them and it will be ensured that the committee gets full cooperation.”
