Citing fund crunch, MC stops payments

CHANDIGARH: The Municipal Corporation is facing financial crunch again.

Chandigarh, March 18

The Municipal Corporation is facing financial crunch again. It has stopped payments against all types of bill, barring salary and pension.

In a letter issued by the accounts branch to the heads of various branches, it has been stated that funds under the capital and revenue heads in the current financial year has almost exhausted but it has been seen that all wings are submitting their bills regularly, resulting in a pile-up.

The letter further stated that due to shortage of funds, payments of these bills will be made in the next financial year.

Congress councillor Devinder Singh Babla said under the BJP rule, the financial condition of the civic body had been deteriorating day by day.

Baljinder Singh Bittu, president, Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC), said a majority of works had been affected for want of funds.
