Chandigarh, October 20

Peeved over city’s issues, the FOSWAC in its executive meeting on Saturday demanded that officers of the Municipal Corporation and UT Administration should be made answerable.

“No work is being done and they are adopting delay tactics. Even officers do not bother to reply to the grievances we raise. Officers mostly come from outside, they only bother to complete their three years of stay in the city and basic amenities are not provided to the public. No chief engineers or any other officer should be allowed to serve more than three years,” said Baljinder Singh Bittu, Chairman, FOSWAC.

Though the Smart City mission was launched with much fanfare nothing is visible on the ground even after four years, he added.

General Secretary JS Gogia said the administration is imposing several taxes on the residents such as increasing electricity charges, sewerage tax and imposing various kind of cess on the existing tax rates; while residents are already paying the house tax.

“There is no value addition in the services being rendered by the administration. Our roads need recarpeting which were being done after five years, now it is more than eight years or so. There is no rationale to the service being rendered as compared to the tax collection,” he alleged.
