Civic body gives Rs 25 lakh to ‘Bharat ke Veer’

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation handed over a bank draft for Rs 25 lakh to the CRPF Commandant in the name of “Bharat ke Veer” corpus fund as a tribute to the families of CRPF jawans martyred in the Pulwama terror attack, on the second day of the Rose Festival here today.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation handed over a bank draft for Rs 25 lakh to the CRPF Commandant in the name of “Bharat ke Veer” corpus fund as a tribute to the families of CRPF jawans martyred in the Pulwama terror attack, on the second day of the Rose Festival here today.

In addition to this, Dr Mamta Joshi, singer of today’s patriotic programme, handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to the CRPF Commandant for the CRPF corpus fund on the stage.

Balihar Singh, Commandant, CRPF, 13 Battalion, and CRPF jawans paid tributes to the martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack at the “Amar Jawan” at 11.30 am installed by the MCat the Rose Garden.

During the cultural programme dedicated to the Pulwama martyrs, the Commandant was the chief guest. The second day of 47th Rose festival earlier started with the Rose Prince & Rose Princess competitions followed by kite-flying show and rose quiz at the Rose Garden.

Theatre group “Samvad” presented powerful light & sound play, “Guhar-e-Hind”, on Lt S Bhagat Singh’s story. After the play, Sufi singer Dr Mamta Joshi, paid tributes to the martyrs through patriotic numbers, including “aye mere vatan ke logo jara aankh me bhar lo paani”, “me rahun ya na rahun Bharat ye rehna chahiye”, “desh mere, desh mere meri jaan hai tu”, “ye desh hai veer jawano ka”, and many more.

  • 1st prize: Jasmine Kaur
  • 2nd prize: Jazlyn Kaur Pahwa

  • 1st prize: Yahira
  • 2nd prize: Recheal

 Age group 2 to 3 years

  • 1st prize: Aarza Kaur Waraich 
  • 2nd prize: Aishwarya Singh Bali
