To spread awareness of sanitation and solid waste management, the Municipal Council, Kharar, has decided to give free organic compost to the person, who will show selfie with segregated domestic waste in dry and wet dustbins.

Giving details, DC Girish Dayalan said residents could get free organic compost prepared by MC Kharar for their gardens. “The only condition is that you have to show your selfie with two separate household dustbins with segregated wet and dry waste,” he said.

He said starting from today the residents could show their selfie at the compost shed opposite the MC park and get free compost as per their requirement, adding that this week-long campaign would start from December 10.

Kulbir Singh Brar, Municipal Council Executive Officer, said the campaign has been started to implement government directions and Solid Waste Management Rules-2016, whereby residents are being motivated to adopt the habit of keeping wet and dry waste separate in two dustbins.

Meanwhile, Anju Chander, president of the Kharar Municipal Council, appealed to the residents that garbage should not be thrown indiscriminately and must be kept segregated.

She also urged the residents to take part in the drive with maximum zeal and interest in this campaign.
