Chandigarh: The UT police have booked the owner and general manager of the Grapho club in Sector 7 after it was found open beyond the permissible time limit on the intervening night of September 12 and 13. The police said a case against club owner Jatin and general manager Mohit Yadav had been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

Immigration consultant booked

Chandigarh: The police booked Pooja Sharma, director of I-Abroad Education Immigration, Sector 42, on a complaint of Gurcharan Singh of Dera Bassi, who had alleged that he was duped of Rs6 lakh on the pretext of providing Canada’s study visa to his son. A case under Section 420 of the IPC and Section 24 of the Immigration Act has been registered at the Sector 36 police station. TNS

City resident accused of rape

Chandigarh: A city resident has been booked on the charge of raping a girl on the pretext of marriage. A case under Sections 376 and 420 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect, identified as Nishant, at the Sector 36 police station. TNS

5 boxers move to next round

Chandigarh: Five city boxers have moved to the next round in the ongoing Senior Men’s (Elite) National Boxing Championship at Bellary, Karnataka. Kuldeep (48 kg), Vishal Sheokand (54 kg), Younam Kamboj (86 kg), Aman (67 kg) and Rohit Kumar (64kg) advanced to next round after winning their respective bouts. Aditya Maan and Harshdeep crashed out.

Purohit greets PM on his b’day

Chandigarh: UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit extended his warm greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 71st birthday. In his message, the Administrator prayed to the Lord to shower his blessings on the Prime Minister. He hoped and prayed that all his dreams for the New India Mission were realised in the larger interest of the nation. The Administrator also said that not only India but also the world had recognised the farsighted approach of the PM in effectively tackling the Covid pandemic. TNS

Recreational programme

Chandigarh: The literary club of GGDSD College, Kheri Gurna, organised a recreational programme for students present on the college campus. The students narrated motivational short stories, recited poems by renowned poets like Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Shiv Kumar Batalvi and sang songs celebrating the rich culture of Punjab. Prof Rama Arora, Principal, encouraged the students to come to the forefront and build their confidence by actively participating in such activities. TNS

Mountain bike Cycling c’ship

Chandigarh: The 20th Chandigarh State Mountain Bike Cycling Championship will be held from September 25-26. The event will conducted near Jayanti Mata Mandir. During the championship, cyclists will be selected to represent the city in the 18th Senior, Junior & Sub-Junior National Mountain Bike Cycling Championship, scheduled to be held in Maharashtra, from October 29-31, said the Chandigarh Amateur Cycling Association.
