CM Saini launches Chandigarh Premier League
The fourth edition of the Chandigarh Premier League (CPL) was officially announced open, with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini unveiling the tournament trophy today evening.
The tournament will be held under the aegis of the UT Cricket Association at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula from June 8 to 26. The league will feature six teams, including defending champions Chandigarh Kings, HIIMS Hawks, Capital Strikers, Tricity Bashers, Rock Garden Warriors and Royal Titans. The league will host two matches daily under floodlights, while the final will take place on June 26.
Meanwhile, Saini lauded the organisers for creating a platform that promoted sporting excellence and provided opportunities to young cricketers. Speaking on the occasion, he praised the efforts being made by the UTCA. He said leagues such as the CPL played a vital role in identifying promising players and providing them with exposure to competitive cricket. UTCA founder president Sanjay Tandon said that the CPL reflected the changing landscape of domestic cricket, where talent met opportunity.
Indian legend and former skipper Sunil Gavaskar was also scheduled to attend the ceremony, but didn’t turn up till the filing of this report.
