Patiala, March 23

The prime accused in a high-profile and multi-crore synthetic drug racket, Jagdish Bhola, was brought to the Government Rajindra Hospital today after he reported pain in his leg.

Doctors at the hospital examined him and found that he had fractured his leg, following which a three-week plaster case was applied to it.

According the jail officials, Bhola had been taken to the district courts two days ago for appearance before the special CBI Judge, Punjab, who was now hearing the case of money laundering registered against him at Fatehgarh Sahib three years ago. The investigations in the case were carried out by the Enforcement Directorate.

The officials said Bhola had been complaining of pain in his leg ever since he was brought back from the court and today, he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A former DSP with Punjab police, Jagdish Bhola, who was decorated with the Arjuna Award, had won a silver medal in the Asian Championships in Delhi in 1991 and a gold medal in the Commonwealth Championship.

The Centre stripped him of the Arjuna Award after Bhola was arrested by the Mumbai Police in 2008. The Punjab Police suspended him from the post of DSP. He was arrested in 2013 along with boxer Ram Singh for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore synthetic-drug cartel.
