Tightening the noose around the builders across the town, the Zirakpur Municipal Council has served notices on those who had failed to obtain the building completion certificates. The defaulting builders and developers have been given an ultimatum to obtain the certificates and clarify their stand for the lapse.

Besides, MC officials have also warned home buyers against shifting to buildings for which occupancy certificates are yet to be issued.

The Zirakpur Municipal Council had received flak for its inability to check the mushrooming of illegal constructions across the town. The civic body had prepared a list of buildings that have been constructed illegally in the town and the MC officials had also started taking action against the erring builders and contractors.

Vinay Mahajan, Executive Engineer, Municipal Council, Zirakpur, said, “We have started serving notices on the builders and developers who have not obtained the completion certificates. So far, we have served notices on 10 builders.”

The MC officials added that they have given the defaulters an ultimatum to obtain the building completion certificates, besides submitting clarification regarding the delay. “They will have to submit the details of the buildings they have constructed as per the building plans approved by the Municipal Council,” added officials.

Under the provisions of the building bylaws, no builder can hand over the possession of residential units without obtaining an occupancy certificate. The civic body had observed that many builders across the Zirakpur town, on the pretext of fit-outs, were handing over possession of houses illegally, the Executive Engineer added.

On being asked about the status of the FIRs sought against three builders for not seeking completion certificates, Pawan Kumar, SHO, Zirakpur, said the complaint had already been forwarded to the concerned police posts, and after verifying the facts, action would be taken in this regard.
