The Chandigarh Mahila Congress on Thursday staged a protest march demanding the resignation of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Congress leaders alleged that Puri’s name had appeared in the Epstein files and said he had no right to continue in office. During the protest, workers carrying placards raised slogans against the Centre and the minister, and burnt an effigy.
The march was led by Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee president HS Lucky. State Mahila Congress president Nandita Hooda said the appearance of a Union minister’s name in the Epstein files was a “serious and shameful matter”. She said it was even more unfortunate that the minister had not resigned despite the allegations, adding that the issue concerned national dignity, political morality and accountability.
All India Mahila Congress secretary Sakshi Chaudhary also criticised the Modi government. Lucky said the Chandigarh Mahila Congress had always remained at the forefront of issues concerning public interest and moral values.
A large number of police personnel were deployed and prevented the protesters from marching towards the BJP office.
