Congress party members laid siege to the Municipal Corporation office on Tuesday, alleging that all development works in the city have come to a halt.
Hours before the General House meeting, heavy police was deployed outside the office gate to prevent any untoward incident. Former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, former councillor HS Lucky and state Congress women cell president Deepa Dubey led the protest.
Congress party members raised the issue of increased water tariffs, Swachhta ranking, segregation of garbage and employees’ protest regarding their salaries.
Inside the MC office, five Congress councillors — Devinder Singh Babla, Satish Kainth, Gurbax Rawat, Sheela Phool Singh, Ravinder Gujral — sat in protest outside the Mayor Raj Bala Malik’s office, demanding a physical holding of House meeting to take up the stalled developmental projects of the city.
